Top-of-the-line baseball gloves are designed out of the best leather available. They need to be made by hand, and some of them are specific to the individual. The amount of time and labor involved in making a good baseball glove makes for a much higher price tag than most other types of gloves. That's why buying a used baseball glove can save you money and time since you won't have to break it in yourself.
Infield gloves tend to be smaller in size compared to gloves for other positions. Infielders generally use shallower and more open pockets, too. The open pocket design allows players to transfer the ball quickly from their glove, which is good because infielders are always on the move and need to make quick plays.
First base gloves resemble catcher’s mitts at first glance. However, they don't have as much padding as catcher's mitts and tend to be longer. The longer design of first base gloves helps first basemen reach further and make diving catches more easily. First base gloves also have fairly deep pockets, and the catching area is similar to that of a catcher's mitt. However, they're not as rigid as catcher's mitts—a flexible design which makes them more efficient at scooping up ground balls.
Pitchers have a unique set of requirements when it comes to their baseball gloves. They tend not to have a lot of padding and are usually larger than infielder’s gloves. The larger surface area allows pitchers to disguise their hand placement around the ball, which helps them disguise their next pitch. All in all, you want your pitcher’s glove to be as comfortable and lightweight as possible.
Outfield gloves are usually longer and larger in size than infield gloves. They also tend to have deeper pockets, as they are meant to help outfielders make those large, diving catches.
